Yoga for Beginners Series (Tuesday Sessions)

Are you interested in yoga but don't know where to start? Want to know the difference between an "ustrasana" and an "utkatasana"? Don't know whether you like restorative or vinyasa yoga? This series focused on the fundamentals of yoga is designed for beginners of all ages. Participants will learn basic yoga philosophy, terminology, principles, and studio etiquette. Most of the series will focus on how to correctly practice basic yoga postures (known as "asanas" in yoga) and the benefits associated with these asanas. The series will survey multiple styles of yoga, enabling students to make more informed and confident choices when choosing their yoga practice in a studio environment. Classes are kept small so that participants have the opportunity to ask questions, "workshop" and learn modifications for various poses, and receive individual feedback about their form and alignment. This is an ideal series for anyone new to yoga who wants to build a strong foundation and ease in to the practice in a supportive, safe, and fun environment. All classes are taught by Yoga-Alliance certified MYBO teachers.

Gita Wisdom: Modern Day Living

The Bhagavad Gita is perhaps the most representative and certainly the most influential and popular text from the numerous and varied spiritual traditions of Hindu India. Spoken by Lord Krishna to Arjuna who is undergoing a moment of crisis, the text deals with the nature of the self, the world, ultimate reality, the purpose of human existence, and the spiritual paths that can be undertaken to accomplish this purpose. The Bhagavad Gita has helped countless seekers on the spiritual path find deeper meaning in their daily lives.
So how can you apply the clear and practical wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita to your life? The Gita’s vision of spirituality points to meditation as an essential part of any practice.
In this Yoga Lecture, we will dive into the discussion, and exercises aimed at allowing us to experience life as a profound spiritual practice.

For all levels, including beginners.

Connection: Adjust and Assists

Artful assisting involves owning the space we are in, being a compassionate host, watching for what is possible in another, and providing empowerment that will create new possibilities for ourselves and others. This two-day workshop involves hands-on experience that will guide you to develop your intuitive, creative, and connected self, in the moment.

This workshop is for yoga teachers and current MYBO Oasis Flow program students to practice adjusts/assists with other teachers/teachers-in-training. Learn how to be with a student on their journey by meeting them where they are at, offering hands on adjustments or verbal assistance guiding students in the ‘direction’ of the pose based on their expression of the pose. We will examine approximately 5 postures (reviewing adjusts/assists); practice giving adjusts/assist; receive adjusts/assists (feeling them in your body), group discussion, and time for questions.

Anchored in the Breath: Yoga and Healing

This workshop like class we will explore breathwork and its purpose within the context of our yoga practice and daily life. We will breakdown various pranayama techniques, and how to utilize these techniques both on and off the mat. Class will conclude with a powerful Reiki infused Crystal Singing Bowl Sound Bath leaving you cleansed and vibrant.

Experience stress-reduction like you've never felt, connect with your higher consciousness, allow your body to go back into vibrational alignment, and allow yourself to heal at a cellular level. Come and benefit from the tranquility of sound healing and Reiki energy work. At a cellular level, we are 75% water. As the vibrations of the crystal and Tibetan singing bowls pass over our body (which is why it is also known as a sound bath), our brain waves go from Beta to Theta, and sometimes, if we go deep enough, to Delta. Thermography Screenings

SAFER, HEALTHIER
BREAST SCREENING.

No radiation -- Medical Infrared Thermal Imaging.

Thermography, also called thermal imaging, uses a special camera to measure the temperature of the skin on the breast’s surface. It is non-invasive test that involves no radiation.
The idea behind this test is that, as cancer cells multiply, they need more oxygen-rich blood to grow. When blood flow to the tumor increases, the temperature around it rises.

One advantage is that thermography doesn’t give off radiation like mammography, which uses low-dose X-rays to take pictures from inside the breasts.

*Upcoming Screening Dates at MYBO:
10am - 3pm
January 26th
March 6th
May 11th
August 17th

*There is a credit card required to hold and $50 deposit that goes toward costs.

Essential Sequencing: Warriors and Twists

Essential Sequencing: Warriors and Twists

Warrior and Standing poses are basic to any Vinyasa Flow Yoga class. But because these classes often move at a quick pace, there is little time for individual instruction on the proper execution of poses. Twists rotate the spine and strengthen and stretch the muscles. This helps to restore and retain the spine’s natural range of motion, which tends to decrease as we age. They stimulate circulation, creating heat and releasing tension in the muscles of the spine, abdomen and rib cage which helps other systems in the body (such as digestion and elimination) work more effectively. At the emotional level, these postures ground us, connect us with the earth element, and center our minds. These benefits are available to all of us, but the degree to which we absorb them is limited by the quality of our practice and the precision of our alignment. In this workshop, we will pause and break down, then reconstruct, the Warrior asanas for a better, safer flow. Furthermore, we’ll explore passive and active twists in ways that specifically suit our own unique body and practice.

The workshop will teach you how to:

- Strengthen your outer Warrior through proper alignment
- Strengthen your inner Warrior and build your self esteem
- Focus on external hip rotators for the Warrior 2 series and neutral hip rotators for the Warrior 1 series
- Connect your Warrior to Down Dog, Twists and other poses to streamline your flow
- Understand the different body types to determine best alignment practices
- Avoid the most common mistakes when practicing Warriors and Twists

Please bring your questions as we will save time to answer them at the end of the workshop.

All levels welcome.

Thermography Screenings

March 6th
May 11th
August 17th
October 19th
December 7th

*There is a credit card required to hold and $50 deposit that goes toward costs.

Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra Meditation

Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra Meditation

Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra Meditation (2hr workshop)

During the first part of this class we will practice Yin Yoga. Yin Yoga is a more meditative approach with a physical focus much deeper than Yang like practices. Here the practitioner is trying to access the deeper tissues such as the connective tissue and fascia and many of the postures focus on areas that encompass a joint (hips, sacrum, spine). As one ages flexibility in the joints decreases and Yin yoga is a wonderful way to maintain that flexibility, something that for many don’t seem to be too concerned about until they notice it is gone.
This intimate practice of yoga requires students to be ready to get intimate with the self, with feelings, sensations, and emotions, something that can be easy to avoid in a fast paced yoga practice. Yin yoga is often used in programs that deal with addictions, eating disorders, anxiety and deep pain or trauma. The second part of the class will be a Yoga Nidra Meditation, a guided meditation done while laying on the ground in a fully supported shavasana using bolsters, blankets and blocks as needed, to bring you into a total relaxation. Yoga Nidra is proven to induce sleep, reduce insomnia, stress, pms symptoms, helps with chronic pain, and healing of trauma, among others.
